SUMMARY:November Member Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:Lesley Sager visits from Madison\, Wisconsin to share the story of Merry-Go-Strong (MGS)\, a non-profit organization she pioneered that works in partnership with women and communities in Kenya to expand their craft\, minds\, and resources. Sager will bring some examples of their creations and discuss how she and MGS have made an impact on the lives of women and girls in remote villages in Africa. \nVisit the MGS website for more information about the organization.

SUMMARY:Island Litter Sweep
DESCRIPTION:Arts\, etc. is sponsoring the March Island Litter Sweep in partnership with the Kiawah Conservancy and South Carolina Aquarium on March 18th from 9-11 AM.  Members and their friends and family are encouraged to join this community effort that helps keep our beautiful island clean and educates us about our local environment. \nThe Litter Sweep volunteer group meets in the parking lot of Mingo Point at 9 am. The South Carolina Aquarium provides all materials needed (pick up bag/grabbers\, gloves\, trash bags\, etc.). We will pair off in groups of two and focus on the main parkway first\, since this is typically the most problematic area. Depending on how many participants we have\, we’ll send a few groups past the gate to a few beach boardwalks and/or bike paths. All will be determined at the start time. We then ask that everyone return to the parking lot by 10:45 am for a group photo and finish right around 11 am. \nWe also catalogue the types of trash we’re picking up for the Aquarium’s Litter-Free Digital Journal\, and those materials are also provided. This data is used to help us get a better understanding of what the most common types of litter are. \n  \n
